Welcome to Private Testing Center

16,000 cases of Chlamydia, Syphilis and HIV were reported in 2016 in Nevada.

Health officials are reporting a rise in STDs in Washoe County on the heels of a syphilis outbreak in Las Vegas. The rise in syphilis in Clark County has given Nevada the highest rate in the west.

In Washoe County, there’s been an increase in every STD across the board. Gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis have all been on the rise since 2009-2010, but it’s gonorrhea that’s seen the most drastic spike. Since 2013, the number of cases has risen by about 40%. Lisa Lottritz, who is the Public Health Nurse Supervisor at the Washoe County Health District, says that because there’s been a general increase in STDs, the number of cases of HIV has gone up as well.

“When you are exposed to an STD, you increase your risk of being exposed to HIV by 3 to 5 times,” she says.

The recent rise in STDs is being linked to more testing, less consistent use of condoms and dating apps. Some experts are blaming apps like Grindr and Tinder in particular because they can be used to find a quick and easy hook-up. Lottritz says that having sex with random partners can create problems if someone contracts a disease and doesn’t know much about their partner. “When we go to do a contact investigation, we’re lucky if we can get a screen name for that person, and it’s difficult to contact them. Then, we can’t get them in, test them, and treat them,” she says.

Health officials urge everyone to always use a latex condom during any form of intercourse, notify any past partners immediately if you test positive for an STD, and make sure your partner is tested and treated before engaging in sexual activity.

Private Testing Center strives to offer affordable, discreet and convenient testing in an effort to prevent the spread of STDs and HIV.

The CDC estimates there are 20 million new cases of STDs in the U.S. each year, with 50% of those new cases falling on young people ages 15 to 24.

In one study, they examined 1,000 adolescents and found that 1 in 4 of them had at least 1 common STD, and 15% were infected with more then one. Most participants in the study showed no symptoms and didn’t even realize they were infected. Even among people who only had one partner in their lifetimes, 1 in 5 still had an STD — but of those with three or more partners, 50% had an STD.

The good news is that many STDs are curable, and those without a cure are treatable. You owe it to yourself and others to find answers and protect yourself. Private Testing Center has 1500 locations nationwide in one of the largest laboratory networks anywhere in the world. Same day appointments are available with scheduling as soon as 15 minutes after calling. The average lab visit lasts just 15 minutes and some results are available the following day.
